Gold trades nearly around the clock, five days a week. The deepest liquidity is the London–New York overlap, when spreads tighten and moves are cleanest.

FAQ

Common questions

When is XAU/USD most liquid in Nigerian time?

Liquidity is generally strongest when the London and New York sessions overlap, which falls in the Nigerian afternoon and evening. Outside that window, especially in the late Nigerian night, volume thins and price can jump between quotes. Plan entries for the busier hours if execution quality matters to you.

Is gold trading open on Saturday and Sunday in Nigeria?

No. XAU/USD trades on weekdays and closes for the weekend, so Saturday and Sunday are not trading days. The market reopens at the start of the Asian session on Monday, which is early morning in Nigeria. Weekend news can therefore hit an untraded market at the Monday open.

Why do my gold orders behave differently at night?

Thinner liquidity outside the main sessions means fewer participants to absorb your order, so the price can move further for the same size. That is a market condition, not a broker fault. If you trade late at night in Nigeria, smaller size and wider tolerance for slippage are the practical responses.

Do trading hours change around public holidays?

They can. Gold hours follow the major markets, so holidays in the US or UK can shorten sessions or thin liquidity, and the exact schedule depends on the venue and your broker. Check your platform's market hours notice rather than assuming the usual weekday pattern will hold.

Should I avoid the minutes around session opens?

Many traders do treat session opens with care because price can gap or spike as liquidity arrives. Whether to avoid them depends on your strategy and stop distance, not on a fixed rule. If you do trade them, size the position so a wider-than-usual move does not exceed your planned risk.
